Girls To The Front is an ongoing series of what it feels and looks like to identify as female and non binary in the punk rock, metal and alternative music scene.
Inspired by Kathleen Hanna from legendary punk band Bikini Kill, Kathleen coined the term “Girls to the front” during the bands live shows. It was a way for girls to feel safe and hear and support each other at often violent, abusive, male dominated shows.
The series is a nod to Bikini Kill, the Riot Grrrl movement and those that came before them. It’s about holding our own space, looking and feeling how we want, without conforming to societys standards of beauty and behaviour.
50 % of profits from issue one is donated to Rize up and Beyond Blue.
